Welcome to Carwatha College

Carwatha is a government school, providing for students from Preparatory level through to Year 12 on the one site. The size of the College and the emphasis on developing and maintaining positive relationships means that we know each student as an individual. With 700 students we can provide more personal supports and opportunities for your child. As such, it is “a College for the whole family”. This, together with the truly multi-cultural nature of our school population, supports a very caring and inclusive environment.

The P-12 nature of our school is a great strength, for both primary and secondary sections of the school. Staff work across sectors and both students and staff have access to facilities and expertise that would not be available in stand-alone primary and secondary schools. Our Year 7 students undertake an extensive transition program which begins in their primary years and continues throughout their first year of secondary education.

Prep

Prep at Carwatha College is about laying the foundations. Small class sizes and personalised teaching programs allow us to support each child’s academic, social and emotional growth. In prep the focus is on developing literacy and numeracy skills while building confidence, self-esteem and a sense of belonging.

We understand the importance of a smooth transition from kindergarten into school, our extensive transition program ensures your child is ready for school and gets the best possible start to their learning journey. We are committed to ‘Learning Together’ in partnership with parents and students to achieve the best possible future outcomes for all of our students.

Primary

Our Primary program aims to provide a safe, fun and caring environment where children are encouraged to develop independence and a feeling of belonging to school. A priority for our College is the development of literacy and numeracy skills.

A daily classroom program includes:

  • Dedicated 2 hour Literacy block including lessons in reading and writing that are targeted to individual student’s needs.
  • Dedicated 1 hour Numeracy block, including specific lessons based on number, measurement, geometry and statistics and probability that are also targeted to individual student’s needs.

Secondary

Our approach to teaching and learning in Years 7 & 8 is that learning is relevant, rigorous and caters for the needs of individual students.

Clear links are made between learning and the real world through the provision of authentic tasks. Rigour creates and supports high expectations where individuals are supported to work to achieve their very best at all times. Teachers ensure that they know their students well and cater for their individual needs.

At Year 9 we are preparing our students to become more independent in their learning. We continue to provide connections between their learning and the world around them and support them to become more complex thinkers. We aim to build their self-confidence and their ability to make informed choices.

Year 10 to 12, At Carwatha, ALL students study VCE over three years. That extra year of our personalised, innovative approach to senior studies means your child has a greater chance of success. Over V3 empowers students to achieve better results, seek out better opportunities and make better choices for their future.
